A Message from the Harbor Office
Summer has officially arrived, and with it comes longer days on the water, busier docks, and more opportunities to enjoy everything marina life has to offer. As activity around the harbor increases, we would like to remind all tenants and guests to remain mindful of marina safety, parking regulations, and dock courtesy. We appreciate everyone who continues to help make Grand Marina a welcoming and secure place for our boating community.
Marina Safety Reminder
The safety of our marina depends on everyone working together. As boating season reaches its peak, please take a few moments to review these important reminders:
Always secure dock gates behind you. Do not allow unknown individuals to follow you through access gates.
Lock your vessel whenever you leave.
Keep valuables out of sight in vehicles and on boats.
Secure dinghies, kayaks, bicycles, and outboards.
Report suspicious activity to the Harbor Office or local authorities. A friendly greeting and awareness of your surroundings go a long way toward maintaining a safe harbor environment.
Keeping the Marina Clean
Our waterfront is something we all share responsibility for protecting. Please help keep Grand Marina beautiful by:
Properly disposing of trash and recycling.
Avoiding overboard discharge of any waste.
Cleaning up after pets immediately.
Using environmentally safe boat-cleaning products whenever possible.
Please remember that discharging untreated sewage into the marina is prohibited by both marina rules and federal law.
Dock Box & Walkway Reminder
For fire safety and emergency access, all dock walkways and common hallways must remain clear at all times. Please avoid storing:
Fuel cans
Bikes
Carts
Fishing gear
Loose equipment
Personal storage items
Items left in common areas may be tagged for removal.
Keeping pathways clear helps ensure emergency personnel can safely access the docks if needed.
Summer Boating Tips
Before heading out for a day on the bay, remember to:
Check tides and weather forecasts.
Test navigation lights and radios.
Verify life jackets are onboard and accessible.
Inspect dock lines and bilge pumps.
File a float plan with family or friends.
Afternoon winds can build quickly during summer months, so preparation is essential.

There is always something happening around the waterfront during the summer season. Local sailing programs, waterfront dining, and community boating events continue to make Alameda one of the Bay Area’s best boating destinations.
Take some time this season to explore local restaurants, support nearby marine businesses, and enjoy the unique boating community that makes the harbor special.
Insurance Reminder
All vessels berthed at the marina are required to maintain current insurance coverage in accordance with marina regulations. Please ensure the Harbor Office has a current copy of your insurance certificate on file. If your policy has renewed recently or your vessel information has changed, please forward updated documentation as soon as possible.
Failure to maintain current insurance documentation may result in tenancy issues or loss of marina privileges.
Heavy Weather Preparation
Although summer brings great boating weather, it is also important to prepare for sudden wind events and seasonal storms.
Please take time to inspect:
Dock lines for wear or fraying Shore power connections
Bilge pumps and batteries
Fenders and tie-offs
We strongly encourage all berthers to make sure there are at least four lines on vessels at all times. Especially during forecasted high winds and remove loose items from docks and decks. A few minutes of preparation can prevent costly damage to your vessel and neighboring boats. If you plan to be away from your boat for an extended period, please notify the Harbor Office and provide updated emergency contact information.
